Weihai hosts conference on digital twin watersheds
Weihai recently hosted experts and practitioners from across China for a technology exchange focused on digital twin small and medium-sized watersheds. Organized by the science and technology promotion center under the Ministry of Water Resources, the event served as a platform for researchers, institutions, and enterprises to share the latest developments in digital water management.

The conference began with a keynote report by specialists from the Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, who outlined the key tasks of digital twin watershed construction and presented practical applications. Their case study on the Huanglei River demonstrated the application of advanced hydrological models to improve planning, monitoring, and management.
Building on this, eight institutions, including the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research and the Hydrology Bureau of the Changjiang Water Resources Commission, introduced a range of technologies through presentations and technical exchanges. To support wider adoption, organizers compiled 15 selected achievements from recent national promotion catalogs into a reference booklet for participants.
The program concluded with field visits to the Huanglei River underground reservoir and water connectivity projects, where delegates observed the translation of digital twin technologies into practical solutions for watershed governance. (Edited by Hu Kaili)
