Ningyang county in Tai'an, East China's Shandong province, has been focusing on childcare, emergency safety, and public welfare this summer, bringing care and support to over 10,000 residents through more than 1,000 volunteer activities.
Addressing the problem of unsupervised children during summer vacation, Ningyang has mobilized university students and teachers to form a Summer Volunteer Service Alliance. This initiative provides children with academic tutoring and safety education while helping them cultivate interests and hobbies.
Cui Wenjing, a university student participating in the volunteer activities for the second year, is currently serving at a summer school in Xishanqian village, Heshan town. "Spending every day learning, doing crafts, and playing games with the children makes me feel inspired," Cui shared.
To date, the county has established 37 public care classes, serving over 2,000 people.
In addition to child care, the volunteer services extend to safety precautions and public welfare. Volunteers visit residents' homes to promote awareness of drowning prevention, heatstroke prevention, and traffic safety. They also provide haircuts, medical check-ups, and meal deliveries to elderly residents in need.
"We will continue to optimize our service models and expand our coverage to bring warmth to more people," said Liu Zhan, head of the Social Work Department of Ningyang county Party Committee. (Edited by Li Weiwei)
