In Chengwu county of Heze, Shandong, a quiet change is happening at the silver age academies. These busy community spots let elders learn calligraphy, sing classic songs, and even master smartphone skills.
Older generations come here to learn songs, practice calligraphy, and paint, enriching their cultural lives close to home.
This year, Chengwu county has tried a new way to mix education and elder care, reviving public cultural spaces. They've piloted 11 silver age academies in rural areas, communities, and care centers.
Twenty full-time staff from local schools offer over 10 courses for the elderly, like music, calligraphy, traditional painting, poetry, health care, and smartphone use. These programs let seniors learn, socialize, and enjoy life, making their later years fulfilling.
