On March 15, the opening ceremony of a series of shopping festivals and consumer events kicked off in Juye county, Shandong, in an effort to stimulate consumption and support the high-quality development of the local economy.

"Juye county, in conjunction with national subsidy policies, has further expanded the range of subsidized products which can be traded in for new consumer goods, adding digital products such as mobile phones, tablets, and smartwatches, while also broadening support for scrapping and renewing cars. In addition to the existing eight major categories of appliance subsidies, new items like microwave ovens and water purifiers have been included. Meanwhile, consumers can enjoy up to a 20 percent discount on the purchase of first-class energy-efficient products, and old appliances can be exchanged for new ones with additional corporate vouchers," according to local official.

This month, Shandong will launch the "Qilu No 1" tourist train. Seizing the opportunities brought by the train, Juye county has introduced ticket discounts in collaboration with six A-level scenic spots and star-rated hotels throughout the county.

Additionally, tourists have the chance to receive cultural tourism consumption vouchers via the UnionPay platform, which offer dual discounts at scenic spots and hotels. Throughout the year, plans include hosting 36 large-scale events such as the Jinshan cultural tourism festival and the world peony conference, as well as organizing 2,000 cultural activities for the public, injecting fresh vitality into the county's cultural tourism scene.

In 2024, Juye county focused on promoting consumption and improving people's livelihoods, organizing more than 20 diverse activities throughout the year and benefiting over 90,000 people. The total retail sales of social consumer goods increased by 7 percent year-on-year, and 45 enterprises in the county, along with over a hundred stores, participated in subsidy activities for the exchange of old consumer goods such as cars, home appliances, home furnishings, and electric vehicles, with a total of 58.49 million yuan ($8.08 million) in subsidies redeemed, according to Chu Deqin, county mayor of Juye. (Edited by Xie Zhenzhen)
