Beigoutou Site in Shandong's county offers glimpse into ancient civilization
The Beigoutou Site in Linshu county, East China's Shandong province, is an important Neolithic archaeological site known for its connection to the Longshan Culture.
Discovered in 1977, it was designated a provincial cultural heritage site and later became a key national cultural relic in 2013.
Situated near the Cangyuan River, the site spans over 6.67 hectares and features a large, flat-topped earth platform. Excavated stone tools, such as axes and chisels, as well as pottery fragments point to a thriving settlement that dates back to the Neolithic period and continued into the Qin and Han dynasties (221 BC–AD 220).
This site is crucial in understanding ancient human activity in the region, which exudes the rich cultural heritage of Linshu and its role as a major settlement during ancient times.
