In Chengwu county, Heze, Shandong, a "symbiosis of fish and vegetables" base has emerged as a groundbreaking model in ecological agriculture, where fish thrive without water changes and vegetables grow vigorously without fertilizers.
While fish farming and vegetable cultivation may seem unrelated, in this innovative setting, they are intricately linked through water, completely revolutionizing traditional methods and establishing a new eco-friendly agricultural model.
Upon entering a "symbiosis of fish and vegetables" base in Chengwu county, visitors will notice that one side features neatly arranged fishponds with clear, flowing water, where schools of fish swim freely, while on the other side, crops like celery are flourishing in hydroponic systems, lush and vibrant. It presents a harmonious scene of abundant green vegetables and healthy fish.
In this system, leftover feed and excrement from fish are ingeniously converted into the necessary nutrients for hydroponic vegetables through clever ecological design. This approach seamlessly integrates traditional aquaculture and soilless cultivation techniques, creating a natural water circulation system.
Here, fish thrive without water changes, vegetables grow without fertilizers, and the nutrient supply remains abundant, offering a sustainable and efficient agricultural practice. (Edited by Xie Zhenzhen)
