Shandong's Juye turns waste into wealth
As temperatures gradually drop, the demand for bio-fertilizers for greenhouse vegetables has recently surged. At the organic bio-fertilizer processing plant in Xinhang Poultry Co Ltd in Dushan town, Juye county, Shandong's Heze, production is in full swing to supply the market.
Xinhang Poultry Co Ltd is a modern large-scale farming enterprise specializing in the production and sale of antibiotic-free eggs. The company maintains a stock of over 800,000 laying hens year-round, generating more than 70 metric tons of poultry manure daily, which once posed a significant burden for the company.
To address this issue, the company invested 3 million yuan ($414,000) to build an integrated chicken manure fermentation workshop, treating the manure to make it harmless and odorless. This facility produces over 6,000 tons of high-quality organic bio-fertilizer annually, which is sold in surrounding areas, generating an additional economic income of over 2 million yuan for the company.
As the largest egg farming county in Shandong province and the largest duck farm north of the Yangtze River, Juye county produces a significant amount of livestock and poultry manure. In recent years, the county has explored new technologies and models for utilizing livestock and poultry manure, paving a green and sustainable development path.
Through technologies such as biodegradation, biogas production, bio-power generation, treatment of manure slurry, and organic fertilizer production, Juye county has achieved a 93.48 percent harmless treatment and resource reuse rate of livestock and poultry manure. This has brought about the organic unity of economic, social, and ecological benefits, stated Yang Bin, director of the county's animal husbandry service center. (Edited by Xie Zhenzhen)
