A group of international students from Dezhou University recently went on a cultural immersion trip to Lingcheng district, Dezhou, where they engaged with local traditions through hands-on activities and visits to cultural landmarks.
Their journey included a captivating introduction to Peking Opera. Dressed in traditional costumes, the students practiced graceful movements, letting their long sleeves flow to the rhythm of the music. It was a hands-on experience that allowed them to appreciate the expressive elegance of this iconic Chinese art form.
The group also observed the intricate craft of sugar-blowing, which is where skilled artisans shape animal figures with gentle puffs of air. This traditional craft has been passed down through generations, and the artistry behind each creation captivated the students.
At the Dongfang Shuo (154–93 BC) cultural exhibition hall, they delved into the life and legacy of this renowned scholar-official of the Western Han Dynasty and gained insights through artifacts and exhibits that brought history to life.
Reflecting on the experience, Katherine, one of the students, expressed her excitement about the enriching journey and looked forward to future visits.
This fusion of cultural heritage and hands-on learning offered the students a profound appreciation for Chinese traditions that highlight the beauty and resilience of China's cultural roots. The event underscored the importance of cultural exchanges in fostering mutual understanding and respect across borders. (Edited by Hu Kaili)
