Weihai Torch Hi-tech Science Park powers up cutting-edge enterprises

The Weihai Torch Hi-tech Science Park in Shandong province has established a dynamic management system for the cultivation of high-quality small and medium-sized enterprises, tailoring individualized growth plans for each company.

"We focus on our industrial strengths and the development of new quality productive forces, forming a full life-cycle cultivation system. We implement targeted policies, gather essential resources, and strengthen services. Through special initiatives such as digital empowerment, technology transfer, and quality standards branding, we help high-quality SMEs upgrade and advance," said an official from the zone's economic development bureau.

The park is currently home to 199 provincial and national single-item champion demonstration enterprises, gazelle companies, and specialized and sophisticated enterprises. It has also cultivated 166 city-level innovative SMEs, and 30 more companies have been added to its enterprise cultivation database.

Weihai Hualing Opto-Electronics, located in the park, is the only company in China specializing in the development, production, and sale of contact image sensors, with technology that is at the international cutting-edge.

In 2023, Hualing was selected as a specialized and sophisticated SME in Shandong and listed as a key company for cultivating into a specialized and sophisticated "little giant" enterprise in Weihai Torch Hi-tech Science Park. However, when the company applied for the program in May this year, the economic development bureau discovered that some of its core indicators did not meet the standards.

"The suggestions from the park's management committee were crucial and effective. It not only proactively provided services, but also accurately pushed relevant policy information, efficiently resolving all issues we encountered during the application process," said a representative of the company. (Edited by Yang Yingxue)
