County of Shandong develops thriving chicken industry
Linshu county, located in southeastern Shandong province, has developed a 10-billion-yuan ($1.4 billion) industry cluster centered around white broiler hens.
The county emphasizes that it uses both specialized and standardized production methods, while investing intensively to scale up white broiler farming and processing.
White broiler breeding in Linshu began in the late 1980s, initially in northern villages such as Qingyun and Yushan, using basic chicken coops. Supported by livestock policies and industry leaders, the practice gradually expanded throughout the county.
The industry has transformed dramatically in these past 40 years. Annual output has surged from 1 million to nearly 100 million as farming methods evolving to sophisticated multi-tiered systems.
Today, Linshu boasts 45 enterprises for white broiler cultivation, forming a complete industry value-chain that encompasses chick hatching, feed production, slaughtering, and meat processing. With over 10,000 workers, the industry is valued in excess of 10 billion yuan. (Edited by Zhang Ying)
