End of Heat, the 14th solar term of the year, lasts from Aug 22 to Sept 6 this year. It signifies the gradual shift from summer's heat to the cooler temperatures of autumn across most regions of China.
As the End of Heat approaches, temperatures start to moderate, and the weather becomes cooler. The temperature fluctuations between morning and evening become more noticeable, and the air grows drier.
To maintain health during this transition, incorporating hydrating foods such as tremella, lotus seeds, autumn pears, and duck into one's diet is recommended. It is also advisable to limit or avoid spicy and fried foods to mitigate autumn dryness.
During this season, traditional Chinese medicine suggests using herbs like poria cocos and platycodon to nourish the lungs and reduce internal heat.
