Yanzhenqing Park in Lingcheng district, Dezhou, Shandong province, recently welcomed a group of international students from Dezhou University for an enriching cultural exchange. Named after the Tang Dynasty (618-907) calligraphy master Yan Zhenqing, the park is currently adorned with vibrant lotus flowers and lush greenery, providing a picturesque setting for the event.
The students began their visit at the memorial hall dedicated to Yan Zhenqing, where they delved into the calligrapher's heroic stories and admired the national cultural relic, An Inscriptional Eulogy to the Portrait of Dongfang Shuo. This masterpiece offered them a glimpse into Yan Zhenqing's calligraphy style, celebrated for its strength and boldness.
Continuing their journey in Lingcheng, the group explored a paper-cutting workshop. Here, they were introduced to the intricate works of Shi Wanzhao, a renowned craft inheritor of Lingcheng's paper-cutting tradition. The students even had the opportunity to try their hand at creating their own cuttings, gaining firsthand experience of this traditional Chinese art form.
In addition to immersing themselves in history and folk art, the students sampled locally produced carbonated drinks and regional specialties. The unique flavors of these local delicacies were met with unanimous praise, adding a delightful culinary dimension to their cultural exploration.
