Since the beginning of this year, Chengwu, a county in Heze, Shandong, has accelerated the construction of a modern water network system that connects water bodies, complements multiple sources, and balances abundance and scarcity. It has gradually improved water resource allocation, flood control and drainage, farmland irrigation, and the rural water ecosystem.
Total investment in modern water network development in Chengwu county is estimated at 2.2 billion yuan ($304 million). Construction tasks are being launched in batches, with plans to dredge 320.77 kilometers of waterways, build or renovate 61 sluices and 94 bridges, build two lifting pump stations, and reinforce 47.6 km of embankments.
As of July this year, 75 km of waterway dredging and management had been completed and 110 bridges and culverts had been built or renovated, covering an irrigation area of 235,000 mu (approximately 15,667 hectares).
The modern water network system in the county, which connects water bodies, complements multiple sources, and balances abundance and scarcity, is taking shape, improving farmland water conservancy infrastructure, providing strong support for flood control and drainage during the flood season, and laying a solid foundation for year-round food security production.
