International students embrace Chinese culture in Yantai
A group of international students from Nankai University recently participated in a cultural exchange event in Longkou, Yantai, East China's Shandong province. They immersed themselves in traditional Chinese arts, exchanging skills with local craft inheritors.
Sun Shujuan, an inheritor of Huangxian county's unique paper-cutting art, meticulously demonstrated and explained the intricate creative process. Intrigued, the international students picked up scissors and attempted to mimic the master's movements.
Meanwhile, in the yangko dance studio, Xu Meiying and her yangko dance team showcased their expertise, captivating the audience. Russian student Lisa observed with keen interest, mirroring the steps with a bright smile. Having spent two years studying in both Shandong and Tianjin, Lisa deeply appreciated the unique nuances of folk art in each region. "Yangko dance is so lively and invigorating. I've learned a few moves and experienced firsthand the rich diversity of traditional Chinese culture," she remarked.
"I'm proud to see traditional Chinese culture resonate globally," Xu Meiying said cheerfully. Sun Shujuan echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the significance of sharing these skills with foreigners to promote Chinese culture worldwide.
At a local tea house, artists and international students engaged in deep conversations, discussing topics ranging from the Terracotta Warriors and Peking Opera to tea art and yangko dance. This exchange underscored their mutual passion and appreciation for various aspects of Chinese culture. (Edited by Hu Kaili)
