Kuiwen district in Weifang, Shandong province, is prioritizing the needs of its residents, actively advancing urban renewal to ensure that every resident enjoys a high-quality urban life.

"With these sponge city facilities in our neighborhood, we no longer have to worry about waterlogging and flooding on rainy days, and the environment has become more beautiful," said a resident of Liyuan community in Kuiwen district.

This transformation is the result of the sponge city renovation project, which emphasizes flood management through green infrastructure rather than just relying on drainage systems. The application of sponge city technology has resolved waterlogging and flooding issues, while adding children's activity areas, fitness zones, recreational viewing areas, and shaded leisure spaces, meeting the diverse needs of residents.

The improvement in urban quality is also evident in the renovation of old neighborhoods. For example, through direct communication with residents of Shundu garden community, Kuiwen district formulated a customized renovation plan for this twenty-year-old community. Now, the community's walls are uniformly repainted, roads are smooth and clean, vehicles are parked in an orderly manner, and the small square is equipped with benches and fitness equipment.

Kuiwen district has invested significant effort and resources into enhancing the quality of urban life, striving to improve the area's overall image, strengthen residents' sense of happiness, and lay a solid foundation for sustainable development. (Edited by Du Xiaping)
