Liaocheng county's water treatment initiative enhances rural living

In Dingzhuang village, Yanggu county, Shandong province, the vibrant gardens of resident Wang Ying are flourishing with a variety of flowers and plants. "The installation of an integrated purification tank has made a world of difference," Wang noted. "We no longer waste water, and watering our plants has become hassle-free."

This innovative water treatment system processes household wastewater, which is then repurposed for irrigation and toilet flushing. In Dingzhuang village, each household now benefits from such a system, connecting wastewater pipes from kitchens and bathrooms to purification units. The treated water is effectively used for garden watering and other non-potable purposes.

Wang Tao, a director at the county's ecology and environment bureau, highlighted the system's advantages. "Local adaptation of wastewater treatment is crucial for rural areas," he explained. In Dingzhuang village, the extensive hardening of road surfaces made the installation of traditional sewage pipelines challenging. The integrated purification tanks address these issues by minimizing construction disruptions and costs while lowering operational expenses.

This initiative showcases the county's dedication to enhancing rural water management. By employing a localized and targeted approach, the county has effectively tackled the challenges posed by sparse rural housing and high infrastructure costs. The result is a cost-effective, environmentally-friendly solution benefiting 200,000 households and contributing to the creation of a revitalized and attractive countryside.
