Ellen R. Judd, an anthropologist and professor at the University of Manitoba in Canada, spent some time in Huaili village in the Lingcheng district of Dezhou, Shandong province this April. This visit was Judd's first return to the area after having previously conducted research in Lingcheng in the 1980s, during which time she developed a deep connection with the local community.
Judd was particularly struck by the significant changes in the region. She noted that there are now many opportunities within a short distance of the village, allowing locals to find employment close to home.
The once-rural area has also undergone a remarkable evolution, becoming more vibrant and active on a number of fronts. Judd beamed about the town's potential moving forward, especially in cultural development.
Judd's visit underscores the success of rural vitalization efforts in Lingcheng. Her insights provide a valuable perspective on the transformative changes and the newfound opportunities that are enhancing the quality of life for the local community.
