Traditional Shandong handmade noodles gain online popularity
Traditional handmade noodles produced in Xuelou village – located in Yanggu county in Liaocheng city in East China's Shandong province – are fast gaining in popularity on the e-commerce market.
The Xue family's special noodles there – listed as intangible cultural heritage in the city and with a history spanning over 300 years – have become a local and tourist attraction.

In a recent live stream, family member Xue Xiuping demonstrated the delicate and exquisite thinness of the noodles, while Xue Xijun – another inheritor of the tradition – explained the 16-step production process that takes 8 to 10 hours to complete.
Since 2020, over 50,000 packets of these noodles have been sold through e-commerce channels.
Overall, Yanggu county has been actively promoting rural its vitalization and industrial upgrading in recent years.
By integrating cooperatives, farmers and e-commerce platforms, the county has expanded the market for specialty agricultural products like the Xue's handmade noodles.
With the help of e-commerce, these special agricultural products have captured the attention of customers both within and outside China.
Li Guimin, the director of Yanggu county agriculture and rural affairs bureau, plans to further develop things by creating more distinct products with local characteristics. (Edited by Jin Yongxue)
