A group of foreigners from Indonesia, Pakistan, Vietnam and other countries recently visited Sun Bin Tourism City in Juancheng county – in Heze city, situated in East China's Shandong province – to get to know about the ancient Chinese military strategist Sun Bin and his writings.
The event – entitled "Reading Shandong: Foreign Friends Perceive Juancheng" – was organized by the publicity department of Juancheng county. It aimed to promote the local culture and tourism resources to the international community.
Sun Bin was a descendant of Sun Wu, the author of The Art of War. He lived in the Warring States Period (475-221 BC) and was renowned for his military wisdom and achievements. He wrote Sun Bin’s Art of War, which is regarded as a classic work on military theory and practice in China.
The Sun Bin Tourism City Scenic Area covers an area of 999 mu (66.6 hectares). It is the largest facility for displaying and studying Sun Bin culture, Sun Bin's Art of War, the great man's military thought and associated research in China.
"Sun Bin was a great thinker and strategist in ancient China. He made outstanding contributions to the development of Chinese culture and civilization," said an official of the Juancheng county culture and tourism bureau.
"His thought and achievements have influenced not only China's military science, but also the world's military history and culture," he added. (Edited by Fan Yuanyuan)
