Tai'an city helps rural elderly enjoy free cable TV
Ningyang county in Tai'an city – which is located in East China's Shandong province – has recently been promoting free cable TV viewing for rural elderly people above the age of 65, to improve their lives.
In Gangchengba village, there are 123 households with folks 65 years old and above, accounting for 47 percent of the total number.
"Now there are about a hundred TV stations and I don't need to spend a penny to watch whatever I like," said Hu Dunxiang, a local senior citizen.
Moreover, there's now an intelligent TV viewing package targeting seniors that is being promoted in the village, which brings more convenience for folks.
To ensure the effectiveness of the project, a special work team has been established in Ningyang county's Fushan town to utilize village broadcasting, bulletin boards and explanatory papers to promote the policies, said Li Weizong, the deputy town mayor.
"We will accelerate the installation pace in a bid to ensure that all elderly over 65 years old in the county can enjoy the free cable TV before the end of the year," said Wang Yukai, deputy manager of Shandong Broadcast & TV Network Co Ltd's Ningyang branch. (Edited by Chen Chuxuan)
