Lanshan district of Linyi city – located in East China's Shandong province – held summer camp activities for local solitary and impoverished children, with 11 activity points set up.

In a bid to solve the problem of finding holiday care, the district set up this program so that parents are reassured that their children are safe and the children have a safe and meaningful summer vacation.

This summer, over 400 children and more than 160 volunteers participated in these activities. Of the total, over 200 kids joined the study tour to Nishan Sacred Land, the Temple of Confucius, and other scenic spots.

"The summer camp had courses that range from ideological education and homework guidance, to safety and psychological counseling. These courses will help children broaden their horizons and know more about society," said Wang Tong, head of the district service group.

Before summer, the Red Cross Society of China in Lanshan district donated rice, noodles, oil, and milk to the value of 25,700 yuan ($3,510) to the summer camp program in order to ensure that the children had nutritious food. (Edited by Chen Chuxuan)
