Tai'an city achieves bumper fig harvest
With the approach of autumn, farmers brought in a bumper harvest of figs recently in Shanglaozhuang township in Dongping county – located in Tai'an city in East China's Shandong province.
"I have been planting figs for over 20 years, and this year's figs are of excellent quality and have a high yield," said Song Laiting, a planter in Songzhuang village of the township.
Song added that the relatively small amount of rainwater, sufficient sunlight and suitable temperature this summer have provided good growth conditions for figs.
At the fig-planting garden in the village, each tree bears about 120 fruit, which mature in August and will last until the end of October. In the early stages of maturity, around 50 kilograms can be sold a day, helping farmers to increase their income.
The figs planted in Songzhuang village are mainly sold to nearby markets, as well as to other provinces and cities both and via express delivery.
At present, there are over 20 planting households in the village, with a total planting area of over 50 mu (3.33 hectares). The village is striving to promote a model that integrates production, supply, and sales. (Edited by Chen Chuxuan)
