Dongping sub-district – located in Dongping county in Tai'an city, in East China's Shandong province – has plans to employ 15, 000 mu (1,000 hectares) of the Daotunwa wetland areas in developing ecological agriculture, to take locals further down the road to prosperity.
Boasting a total area of 37,000 mu, the Daotunwa wetlands was approved as a national-level wetland park in 2005.
Revitalizing idle and abandoned ponds was the first step to developing ecological agriculture. After a clean-up, the sub-district planted various types of aquatic products on the water surface and cultivated grain crops such as wheat and corn on the land areas.

To further improve its sustainable development capabilities, Dongping wants to implement the standardized transformation of tail water treatment projects for aquaculture ponds. When completed, the tail water will meet discharge standards, as well as promote the reuse of resources.
Moving forwards, the Dongping sub-district wants to continue to attract top enterprises to settle there, to help drive the development of industrial bases and local farmers. (Edited by Chen Chuxuan)
