Shandong province blends tradition, modernity
Step into Beiwangzhao village in Shiji town – located in Juancheng county, in East China's Shandong province – and a Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) plaque catches the eye, meticulously carved and rich in historical significance.
What's more, the village has a long and proud tradition of cultivating virtuous and upstanding politicians. Today, this legacy guides the creation of wall paintings that promote values such as integrity and filial piety – the virtue of respecting one's elders in Confucian philosophy. It helps nurture a civilized society and has also become a highlight in the development of rural areas.

Based on its rich historical and cultural heritage, Shiji town – where Beiwangzhao village is located – is working on a micro-park project. So far, 12 of these parks have been built, along with 2,000 meters of flower beds, 10,000 square meters of painted walls and 3, 000 meters of colorful brick pathways. These efforts are said to contribute to a green and beautiful village environment.
The journey of Beiwangzhao village shows that the fusion of tradition and modernity can give renewed impetus to the development of the region, attracting more tourists to a fresh and renewed image. (Edited by Zhou Yunlai)
