Seasoned master craftsman Grandpa Amu – who hails from the county-level city of Linqing, administered by Liaocheng city, in East China's Shandong province – has become an unexpected celebrity on international social media platforms.
That's because of his incredible skills in mortise and tenon joints – a woodwork technique widely employed in traditional Chinese architecture and furniture making, usually without the use of nails or glue.
In this video, Grandpa Amu shows how to make a Luban lock. This is an ancient Chinese toy that uses pieces of wood that are exquisitely crafted to interlock without the use of nails.
It's completely supported by its own structure, utilizing a seemingly simple but an ingeniously practical wisdom. (Edited by Chen Chuxuan)
