Shandong's county holds reading activity
Yanggu county in Liaocheng city – located in East China's Shandong province – has built and opened 10 urban study rooms in recent years, which offer intelligent and convenient facilities as well as colorful and informative activities for residents.
On June 19, one of the study rooms on Bojiqiao street in the county hosted a parent-child reading activity, with a teacher discussing Grain in Ear – a travel picture book that examines the 24 solar terms of the traditional Chinese calendar.
The book aims to inspire children to engage with nature and the world around them. During the activity, the teacher told the kids all about the ninth solar term of the year, the Grain in Ear, which is a busy season for farmers in China when their crops mature.
By taking part in these activities, young people can learn about Chinese farming customs, culture and history, as well as local attractions.
Zhang Hui, director of the Yanggu County Library, said these kinds of activities imbued folks with important and lasting cultural influences.
