The otherwise nondescript village of Maozhang – located in East China's Shandong province – is creating positive waves by promoting civic virtue through the operations of a credit supermarket.
Local villagers are delighted by the scheme in the village, which is in Yangxin county, administered by Binzhou city in Shandong.
"Doing good deeds earns you points and points can be exchanged for gifts, so this activity is great," declared one villager.
The credit supermarket is part of the village's efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle of virtue and civic pride in the new era, to mobilize Party members and others to participate in village affairs and to enhance village autonomy under the leadership of the Party organization.
"This activity is very meaningful to me. I can get corresponding points for doing volunteer work. I believe this activity will stimulate more villagers to participate in village affairs," said a volunteer from Maozhang village.

In Maozhang's credit supermarket, there are more than 20 kinds of goods available for credit points exchanges. Different volunteer service points can be exchanged for different value items.
In recent years, Yangxin county has refined its work to create a more spiritual civilization creation, to establish civilized practices, as well as virtue and credit.
This has included its people participating in volunteer services, carrying out civilized practice activities and other virtuous behavior – initiatives linked to credit points projects.
Moving forwards, plans are for Yangxin to continue to explore and improve the volunteer service points exchange system, encourage more people to participate in volunteer service activities and seek to create a more harmonious society. (Edited by Fan Yuanyuan)
