A cultural and tourism activity was held on March 30 in Dong'e county in Liaocheng city – located in East China's Shandong province – to develop local tourist brands.
The event also aimed to share resources and hold special events, to showcase the scenery and customs of the areas along the Yellow River.

The Yellow River is China's second largest river and it is known as the "Mother River" in China. There are nine cities in Shandong province that are located along the river, including Jinan and Liaocheng.

Volunteer services teams were established at the activity from Dong'e county and Jinan's Zhangqiu district, that aim to explore and inherit the special culture of place names.
During the event, various counties and districts along the Yellow River introduced their local geographical name culture through video clips, presenting a cultural map of the Shandong section of the Yellow River.
In recent years, Dong'e county has set up a dedicated work team to develop tourist brands, based on the various place names. As a result, a film based on Yushan village received provincial recognition and a book entitled Place Names of Dong'e County was released.
Moreover, publicity walls have been set up in Dong'e county, as well as neighboring cities and counties, to publicize and promote the characteristic place names culture along the Yellow River.
"We will continue to work to optimize the geographical name management mechanism, create geographical name cultural brands and upgrade geographical name services," said Chen Shunhai, director of the civil affairs bureau of Dong'e county. (Edited by Jin Yongxue)
