Green channel promotes 'China's Biology Valley'

The supply period for imported bio-reagents will be reduced after an inspection and quarantine supervision warehouse at the Yizhuang Bio-Platform International Service Center was recently approved by the Beijing inspection and quarantine authorities. The supply period will be cut from one to two months to one to two weeks.

The Yizhuang Bio-Platform International Service Center, located at the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone in Yizhuang, Daxing district, is a third-party public service platform for biological technology companies and bio-science and technology research and development institutions. The approval of the warehouse has created a "green channel" for imported bio-reagents, making custom clearance procedures more efficient.

The center works directly with Chinese customs, exit and entry inspection and quarantine organizations, and public health authorities, which also improves the custom clearance efficiency.

"Once companies come to us, we can provide a one-stop supply chain solution, including services in exit and entry application forms, custom clearance, international and domestic cold chain logistics," said Lan Baoshi, director of the board of the Beijing Yizhuang Bio-Platform International Service Center Co. He added the center is the only one of its kind in the nation.

The opening of this "express highway" helps drive China's biological reagent industry and development zone, also known as "China's Biology Valley".

There are five service platforms to support the bio-chemistry industry in the area – technology support platform provides tenant companies with public resources for experiments; technology transformation platforms have close connections with financing and investment organizations to support the tenant companies with capitals; public service platforms provide conference rooms, personnel training, internet and property management services; information exchange platforms promote new projects and achievements by forging communication among tenant companies; and policy support platforms obtain more privileged policies for companies in the zone.

The bio-chemistry industry is one of the four pillar industries in the economic and technological development zone. In 2012, the total industrial output value of bio-companies in the area accounted for almost half of Beijing's bio-chemistry industry. The zone was titled "National Bio-Chemistry International Innovation Park" by the Ministry of Science and Technology in October. The zone aims to further develop its "China Biology Valley" reputation in the future.

The overall output value of the bio-chemistry industry in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone is expected to exceed 80 billion yuan ($13.13 billion) during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, accounting for 60 percent of Beijing's total bio-chemical output, according to officials in charge of the development zone.
