Zhongguancun Science Park's renewed commitment to developing modern services was demonstrated by its exhibitions at the China Beijing International Fair for Trade in Services, which concluded in the capital on Saturday.

The theme for this year's fair is the modern services industry, which is characterized by high technology and new models for commerce.

As a tech hub, Beijing's Zhongguancun has been a symbol of advanced industry and innovation in the capital since it was founded in 1988.

The park showcased the best of its high-tech service industry, including cloud computing, large dataset management and digital content, during the annual event.

Its innovations were in the spotlight at the fair, with the latest cutting-edge products on display.

The park has long focused on putting modern technology into daily use. The latest technology and products in the fields of intelligent transportation, e-commerce and mobile applications were on show at the fair.

For instance, Skycloud Technology Co Ltd demonstrated its large data-processing system.

And the LED 3D display system developed by Leyard Optoelectronic Co Ltd also garnered much attention at the fair.

Through the fair, more and more companies in the park found partners or conducted cooperation with the outside world. A special negotiation area was set up to facilitate the establishment of partnerships. The park also organized a trade meeting in the field of digital content.

In a bid to raise the profile of the meeting, the park invited a large batch of leading technology companies in their respective fields from China and abroad.

With the theme of "Zhongguancun - Building a Global Digital Content Industry Trading Center", the meeting included many big names, such as Google, Yahoo, Amazon, Baidu, 360 and Jingdong Mall.

E-commerce is among Zhongguancun's highlighted modern services.

Participants in the meeting held discussions on a wide range of topics, including digital publication, digital music and mobile e-commerce.

The meeting also provided a valuable opportunity for Zhongguancun companies to have one-on-one talks about cooperation on the sidelines.

Zhongguancun leads its peers in the country in terms of upgrading its industrial structure and developing a high-tech service industry.

It now has the largest modern service cluster in the country, and an industrial structure centered on modern services is taking shape in the park.

In July 2011, the ministries of finance, commerce, and science and technology, as well as the National Development and Reform Commission and Beijing municipal government, jointly signed a three-year cooperation agreement to found a pilot modern service innovation demonstration zone at the Zhongguancun Science Park.

This has greatly boosted the growth of the park. The effects of industrial restructuring have already begun to show.

In 2012, modern services contributed about 1.7 trillion yuan ($277 billion) to the revenue of the park, a year-on-year increase of 30 percent and accounting for 70 percent of the economic growth of the park.

Zhongguancun has become a powerful engine driving the growth of the modern service industry in Beijing.

Companies in the fields of cultural and creative industries, biomedicine, and electronic information are the biggest contributors in the park.

Modern services generated 336 billion yuan in revenue in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 19 percent compared to the same period last year.

The park also contributed financial support to the development of a batch of large projects in the sector, such as Baidu's next-generation Internet search technology and the cloud video service of Web portal LeTV.

As of May this year, 128 projects had received government financial aid.
