Zhongguancun represented at Internet Week New York

The Sixth Internet Week New York (IWNY) kicked off in New York City on May 20,and the deputy director of the Zhongguancun Science Park's liaison office in Washington attended the event, which began with a symposium on the creation of a digital city.

The symposium - organized by NYC Digital, a part of the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment - took place in the New York City borough of Manhattan, and attracted representatives of cities from around the world including Beijing, Belfast, Boston, Buenos Aires, Helsinki, London, Ottawa, Paris, Philadelphia, Quebec, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco, Singapore and Tokyo. pParticipants shared their innovative approaches for a digital and intelligent life.

Officials of the city of New York gave welcome speeches and Rachel Haot, New York City's Chief Digital Officer, spoke about the progress that has already been made in the creation of a digital city.

Participants also discussed various topics, including Internet access and infrastructure, innovations in digital education, open government, and digital participation.

After the discussion, the attendees presented their development and preferential policies for high-tech industries, and Wang Lei, the representative from Zhongguancun, spoke about the development of the Zhongguancun Science Park, China's national science and technology demonstration zone.

Established in July 2011, the mission of NYC Digital is to realize New York City's potential as the world's leading digital city. It focuses on five core areas – access to the Internet, digital education, open government, digital participation and the development of the industry.

Launched in 2008, the IWNY has grown into a bustling week of 45,000 people participating in over 250 activities around the city. This year, the event will explore how technology is expected to influence a wide range of sectors, such as food, fashion, healthcare and education.
