Yonghe Park, a sub-park of Beijing's Zhongguancun Science Park, has doubled its size to include Longtan Lake following its expansion, according to the managing committee of the park. Its total income is expected to account for 30 percent of Dongcheng district, with the cultural creativity and high-tech industry as mainstays.

"After expansion, the park will measure 6.03 square kilometers," said a senior director of the park's managing committee. With 78 more office buildings included in the park, the total office area will reach 5.7 million square kilometers, three times that of the original space.

"Currently there are 3,500 companies operating in the park, and the number is bound to increase rapidly," said the director.

Last year, the total revenue of companies and institutions in the park reached nearly 100 billion yuan ($16.28 billion), accounting for a large part of Dongcheng district's total revenue.

The cultural creativity industry and high-tech industry outperformed in terms of income and became a source of cultural and technological development for the whole park area. After industrial upgrading and land expansion, the income of those companies is expected to account for 30 percent of the whole district.

With nearly 3,500 operating companies, the park registered total tax revenues of 1 billion yuan ($163.1 million) in the first quarter of the year. Moreover, Hutong Idea Factory will also set up operations in the newly expanded area.
