Jaco Fok, general manager of the open innovation department of Royal Dutch Shell Group, visited Zhongguancun Science Park on March 21.
Zhou Guolin, vice-director of the Zhongguancun administrative committee; Zeng Xiaodong, international business director; and other officials from the park met with guests and talked about issues related to building an open innovation center in China.
As the biggest energy and chemical group throughout the world, Shell Group has long been involved in technical innovation. It founded its first open innovation center in Boston (USA) in June 2012.
To promote its innovation and business model, the group is planning to set up an open innovation center in China by making use of its own advantages and Chinese technology and equipment.
Zhou and Zeng introduced Zhongguancun Science Park and its important position in national innovation strategy. Zhongguancun will provide support for Shell Group in establishing the open innovation center in hopes of promoting cooperation between both sides, said Zhou.
Jaco Fork said that Shell Group's open innovation team will keep in touch with Zhongguancun. The group will better understand Zhongguancun's innovative resources and the position and function of an open innovation center in China. Shell will also propose specific cooperation needs.
