Tsinghua University Science Park (TusPark) has set up Xi'an and Xianyang sub-parks in Shaanxi province and is well on its way to creating Shaanxi's "Silicon Valley", according to Wang Wu, president of Shaanxi TusPark.

TusPark was inspired by Stanford Research Institute (SRI), the world's first university science park. SRI created the "Silicon Valley" thanks to the synergy among innovative players such as government, the market, enterprises and academic institutions.

Shaanxi sub-park was co-founded by Wang Wu and the Xi'an Tsinghua Alumni Association in the 1990s. Pillared by its value-added services, the sub-park mainly provides technological innovation and pro-business environment solutions. It brings all its resources into play to create an innovation-friendly environment.

After over 10 years of growth, Shaanxi sub-park has become the biggest digital medical industry base in western China. Among the companies in the park, 87 of them deal with medical equipment manufacturing and related research. Their annual production value is over 400 million yuan ($64.32 million), accounting for more than 25 percent of the total in Shaanxi province.

Companies in the park hold over 240 registration certificates for medical equipment. More than 90 percent of products have unique intellectual property rights. The park's high technology products include magnet resonance imaging (MRI) equipment and medical electronics.
