The site of Weichi Temple in Mengcheng county, Bozhou city, together with five other sites in Anhui province, have been included in the list of conservation projects for the national 12th Five-Year Plan, according to the Great Sites Conservation Special Planning for the 12th Five-Year Plan released by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage and Ministry of Finance.
The site of Weichi Temple lies in Xuding town, Mengcheng. It is a large, well-preserved site of the primitive Dawenkou culture. Since 1998, the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences has completed 12 excavations, unearthing nearly 10,000 cultural relics. Various media outlets have covered the archaeological finding.
The site was selected as a national relic protection unit in July 2001. Protection and exhibition plans for the site were approved by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage in 2002.
