Huangshan-Hangzhou Railway to start construction
Updated: 2013-04-02

The construction of the Huangshan-Hangzhou Railway will start this year and will be finished in 2016. At a speed of 250 km/h, travel time between these two cities will be shortened to one hour.

Construction of the Huangshan-Hangzhou Railway has been included in China's Mid-Term and Long-Term Railway Network Development Program and the 12th Five-Year Plan to create an integrated transportation system.

The railway connects the south of Anhui province and the west of Zhejiang province and serves as a link between the Shanghai-Hangzhou and Hefei-Fuzhou railways. It will be a vital cross-regional tourism line, which combines a well-known city (Hangzhou), famous mountain (Yellow Mountain), famed river (Fuchun River), and notable lake (Qiandao Lake).

The 282-kilometer railway starts from Hangzhou West Station, travels west from Fuyang, Tonglu, Jiande and Chunan in Zhejiang to Jixi in Anhui province and ends in Huangshan. The length in Anhui will be 82 km and will cost 10.5 billion yuan ($169 million) according to estimates. Four stations including Sangyang, Jixi North, She County North and Huanshang North will be set along the railway. It will be a railway line for passenger traffic. At a speed of 250 km/h, travel from Hangzhou to Huangshan will take only one hour.
