Guniujiang Nature Reserve

Guniujiang Nature Reserve
Guniujiang Nature Reserve

At the confluence of Shitai county and Qimen county in Chizhou city, the Guniujiang Nature Reserve is 22 km from the county town of Shitai. In ancient times, it was called West Huangshan Mountain. Now it is a national nature reserve and a national geological park. The main peak is in the shape of a bull falling from the sky, hence the name Guniujiang (Guniu and jiang mean bull and falling respectively in Chinese). In autumn, the sky is clear and the air bracing. Huge arc lights with seven colors emerge over the peak, appearing indistinctly. This is the "Light of Buddha", a wonder in Guniujiang.

The nature reserve is divided into four scenic zones: the Prominent Peak, Queer Peaks, Shuanghekou and Longmen (Dragon Gate) scenic zones, featuring a combination of grand, unique, precipitous and elegant vistas.

At present, some major scenic spots in the Longmen Scenic Zone have been developed and opened to the public, including the Yanjia Village, Lover's Valley, Longmen Pool and Four Overlapping Waterfalls. As a national nature reserve of forest ecology, the Guniujiang Nature Reserve is abundant in a wide coverage of sub-tropical original forests and rare and precious animal and plant resources. With over 1,300 plants and at least 1,000 species of animals, it is known as the "green natural museum" and the"treasure house of wild animals and plants in East China".
