The New Year Performance Season of the Zhengyici Theater of Beijing will present six works from Nov 23 to the end of the year.

The program will consist of three dramas - Cooking a Dream, The Good Person of Beijing, The Life of Mine, as well as three contemporary Peking Opera works, Cao Qiqiao, Three Haunting Souls, and Mei Langfang Classics.

Among the programs, Cooking a Dream, directed by Huang Ying, won acclaim at this year's Avignon Festival in France and the Beijing Fringe Festival, while Mei Langfang Classics is a combination of six classics from the 160 repertoires of the late Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang.

The program is an effort by Zhengyici, a theater reserved for traditional Chinese operas, to tap into contemporary theater life.

Zhengyici was built in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and will celebrate its 300th anniversary next year.
