The Belgium embassy, Belgiam Tourist Office Flanders and TSK Jewellery gathered at TSL Jewellery in Sanlitun Village to celebrate 40 years of Sino-Belgian diplomatic relations on Sept 7, 2011 in Beijing. An interactive online event also opened on the same day.
2011 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Belgium and there has been a deepened friendship between the two. Workers in China helped with reconstruction in Belgium after WWI, and Belgian engineers aided China during railway construction. The bi-lateral relationship has matured through cooperation, fully proven by the eagerness and enthusiasm of more than 1 million participants who visited last year's Europalia Festival.
To remember this monumental moment and to help more Chinese netizens understand Belgium, the Embassy of Belgium in China initiated the Belgium Quiz, an online activity to celebrate and stimulate relations between Belgian and Chinese people. Most of the questions online concern Belgian culture, arts and leisure. The questions are full of humour and very challenging. The winner, without a doubt, will be an intelligent person with much knowledge of Belgium, said an official source.
A wide range of prizes are up for grabs:
The first prize is a pair of Estrella earrings and 18k white gold necklace provided by TSL.
The second prize is a week-long romantic getaway for two, provided by Belgiam Tourist Office Flanders, Tourism Wallonia and Hainan Air.
There are also a wide variety of other prizes, including world-renowned Belgium chocolates (courtesy of Guylian, Neuhaus, Godiva and Valentino), books on The Smurfs provided by Belgium Restaurant and Bar and Jieli Book, The Adventure of Tin-Tin provided by China Children's Press&Publication Group, and the complete collection of Suske en Wiske, a Belgian classic children's publication by LiaoNing Children's Publishing House.
The Belgium Ambassador Patrick Nijs, Director China at Toerisme Vlaanderen Nico Peeters and TSL Group COO Lambert Chan were invited as special guests at the news conference.
