Myanmar steps up efforts in promoting tourism

INTRODUCING TRADITIONAL ENTERTAINMENT TO ATTRACT TOURISTS

Myanmar is planning to introduce entertainment programs in Myanmar traditional style in some main tourist sites in the country such as those in Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan and Inlay.

The entertainment programs such as traditional dance and food fair will be staged daily at the nationalities village in Takayta township of Yangon where there are houses and models featuring eight different nationalities and their traditional costumes.

INTRODUCING FIRST-EVER EQUESTRIAN TOUR

Myanmar Equestrian Federation (MEF) introduced the first-ever equestrian tour starting this month for locals as well as for tourists by selling the tickets.

Aimed at attracting more tourists into the country, MEF and Ayeindamar Travels and Tours, the only local company that specialized in horse riding tour, have signed the MoU for the move.

The tour will cover Hmawbi in Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay, Kalaw, Aung Pan and Pintaya where tourists can take equestrian tour with tourist guides, horse trainers, extra horses provided. A total of 10 tourist guides are being trained for first aid.

ADDING TRAVEL SHOW TO SPECIAL GEMS SHOW IN MYANMAR

Travel show has been added to Myanmar's special gem show as a special feature for the first time to encourage private gem traders to participate in the show where domestically-produced quality gems, jade, pearl and jewelry are sold.

According to statistics, the number of tourist arrivals in Myanmar reached over 140,000 in the first four months of 2011, up about 30,000 from over 109,000 in 2010 correspondingly, according to the earlier report.

Visitors from China stood top in Myanmar's tourist arrivals, followed by those from Germany, Spain, Norway, Thailand, Cambodia and India.
