Wood carving artist Xu Yingfu shows carved phoenix in Xiangyang, Hubei on August 15, 2011. Wood carving is done purely by hand. One needs to draft the pattern on paper, transfer that onto the wood, finely carve on wood then polish with paint. Each piece may take anywhere from 10 days to half a year to complete.
