The 2011 China Binzhou Boxing Dongyong Culture and Art Festival will be held October 24-28 in Boxing County, East China’s Shandong Province, the county mayor announced in Beijing on Thursday.

Boxing County, located in the surrounding area of the Yellow River Delta, and is the hometown of Dongyong, who was a dutiful son in Han Dynasty, and it is the birthplace of Lu Opera.

Seven activities will be held during the festival, including the Sixth International Boxing Kitchenware Trade Fair, the 8th Chinese Minor Opera Festival, the large-scale Calligraphy Exhibition, special local products trade fairs and investment promotional events.

The Chinese Minor Opera Festival is an activity that represents national intangible cultural heritage, and also the largest appraisal activity of Chinese minor opera performance. “We hope to drive the development of Chinese traditional opera by holding the opera festival and built it into the Binzhou city name card,” said the mayor.
