Recently, a total of more than 60 ancient beacon towers from the Han dynasty were discovered at Subei Mongolia Autonomous County in Gansu Province, according to Jiefang Daily.
Subei County was the entrance and exit point Huns used when invading and retreating from the central plain during the Han dynasty. According to relevant offices, these beacon towers are mainly distributed at the upper reach of Dang River, the middle reach of Shule River and areas around Mazong Mountain, which where were important military places in ancient times.
Among those beacon towers, the one located at Mazong Town is the best preserved. About 4.4 meters high and 4.5 meters in diameter, the tower is built with stones and shaped like a round tank.
