DPRK leader vows to rapidly develop sports

PYONGYANG - Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) vowed to rapidly develop the nation's sports when he recently enjoyed a demonstration performance of synchronized swimming, Rodong Sinmun reported on Thursday.

According to the Rodong Sinmun, after enjoying the performance of synchronized swimming at the Changgwang Health Complex, Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of DPRK, expressed great satisfaction over the performance and highly appreciated the athletes.

He indicated orientation to further develop synchronized swimming and ways to do so and set forth tasks to serve as guidelines for rapidly developing the nation's sports, underscoring the need to round off sports technique and tactical system and training methods of Korean style to bring the level of sports technique to a higher stage, said the report.

He was accompanied by Kim Jong Un, Vice-chairman of the WPK Central Military Commission and other senior officials.

The Rodong Sinmun didn't disclose the concrete date of the performance.
