SEOUL - Republic of Korea (ROK) on Tuesday agreed to a proposal by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to hold a meeting over volcanic activities at Mount Paekdu, ROK unification ministry said.

ROK suggested experts from the two Koreas meet on March 29 in the ROK border city of Munsan to discuss a possibility of volcanic eruption at the mountain on the border with China.

"In a message (delivered to the DPRK,) the ROK side agreed on the need for inter-Korean cooperation on volcanic activities at Mount Paekdu," the unification ministry said in a press release.

The DPRK's proposal came last week in what observers here say might be a sign that the country is willing to ease inter-Korean tension.
