SUVA - Fiji will pursue training opportunities in peacekeeping with China, a move applauded by some quarters in the Pacific island nation community on Sunday following moves between the two countries to grow engagement.
Ganilau said Fiji values its relationship with China due to the wealth of skills and training in rural development and information technology they have offered since Fiji's neighboring countries Australia and New Zealand have backed off.
He also acknowledged the assistance Fiji has received in the past years, with a number of projects underway in the country since the takeover in 2006.
The meeting resolved China will continue to offer training opportunities in Maritime and Engineering Studies and Rural Development.
Since both countries participate in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations around the world, Fiji is exploring training opportunities in this area, to keep abreast with changes given that the global security landscape is ever evolving.
