US vice president to visit Chengdu

2011-08-18 09:57

US Vice President Joe Biden will include a stop in Chengdu during his visit to China Aug 17 through Aug 22.

Chengdu is becoming an investment base for more large-scale US companies. In February, the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai released the 2010-2011 China Business Report, which contains the latest information on 346 US-funded enterprises in China.

More than one-quarter of US-funded enterprises clearly expressed interest in expanding to second-tier and third-tier cities in China, the report stated. Chengdu in Sichuan province has been considered the "most appealing" investment base of cities that size for US-funded enterprises for four consecutive years, according to the chamber's report.

US-based Intel Corp built a plant in Chengdu to seal, package and test Intel semiconductor products. US-based Dell Corp began construction in March 23 at a global operations base in Chengdu.

The US Consulate General's office reports that the investments by Intel and Dell in Chengdu shows that US-based companies believe Chengdu is a smart place to invest, and adds that the investments also add jobs and grow the economy in Chengdu.
