PoliceĀ of Wuzhong city, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, said they will release Wang Peng, a librarian working in Yinchuan, Ningxia's capital, on Thursday.

Wang Peng was detained by Wuzhong police for slander on Nov 23. Late in 2007, Wang posted accusations online about his classmate Ma Jingjing, who he said cheated on the civil servant examination of Ningxia in 2007. Ma ranked highest in the exam and was admitted into the Yinchuan government. Wang said in the post that Ma failed most courses at university, and doubted he got the job with help from his parents who are officials of the Ningxia and Wuzhong government. Another person who worked for the civil servant enrollment of Ningxia in 2007 also said Ma got a low score in the exam.

Wuzhong party committee said the case is procedurally wrong, as it must be based on a complaint by the slander victim, and Ma has filed no such complaint. The party committee held the deputy-director of the city's police department accountable and dismissed him.
