The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's spokesman said the Chinese mainland's supplies of meat, fruits and vegetables to Hong Kong during the two weeks prior to the Chinese Spring Festival were not affected by rain and snow, the People's Daily Overseas Edition reported.

A series of inspection and quarantine procedures were also applied to ensure the safety of the supplied food.

A shopper surnamed Fong said that she used to be worried that the supply of fresh agricultural produce might be affected by bad weather in the mainland.

She said at a supermarket in Mong Kok, Kowloon, that she is not worried any more as she has seen a wider range of fresh agricultural produce than last year. Therefore, her New Year family dinner program will not change.

The flower market is hot, said Choi, who operates a flower business on Lockhart Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

He said that 1,700 sticks of peach, chrysanthemum, lily and narcissus sourced from the mainland were sold out over three days. His revenue rose 20 percent compared to last year.

The Chinese Spring Festival, or the Lunar New Year holiday, lasted from Feb 3 to Feb 5 in Hong Kong this year.
