China Telecom, the smallest of China's three wireless carriers, will see the number of new users using its 3G service exceed 8 million this year, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing an executive with the firm.

"Our new 3G subscribers are likely to be a little higher than 8 million this year, and we definitely aim for more growth next year," Jin Dongbin, vice chief engineer of the parent group, told Reuters on the sidelines of a conference in Wuxi, Jiangsu province.

China Telecom is set to report its third-quarter results on Thursday after the Hong Kong market close.
